Elizabeth J. “Betty” Cullen, age 93, of Janesville died Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Huntington Place. She was born on July 24, 1923 in Janesville, the daughter of George and Estella (Yale) Bancroft. She graduated from Janesville High School and Whitewater State Teacher’s College (UW – Whitewater). Following graduation, Betty taught 4th grade in the Milton School District. She married Robert Dean Cullen on July 6, 1946. While raising her children, she also taught music at several nearby country schools and later worked as secretary at Harmony School. Betty was a long-time member of Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church where she served as choir director for many years. She was active in homemakers groups, was a Harmony 4-H leader, enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards and square dancing.
Surviving are three children, Scot Cullen of Madison, Richard Greg (Kathy) Cullen of Janesville, Diane (Dave) White of Kaukauna, WI; nine grandchildren, Jamie (Matt) Adams, Ryan (Cellanie Groh) Cullen, Nathan Cullen, Katie Cullen, Kristin Cullen, Erik Cullen, Megan (Dylan) Bjustrom, Amy (Kyle) Fassbender, Danny White; five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Maya and Jordan Adams, Emeline and Cullen Joel Bjustrom, two sisters, Delores Hoff of Wappinger Falls, NY, Barbara (Bob) Barthel of Janesville, two sisters-in-law, Neva Fleming of Delavan and Mary Cullen of Janesville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dean Cullen on November 25, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Dean Cullen, her parents, and siblings Walter Bancroft, Leone Miller and Robert Bancroft.
The family will gather for a worship service to honor Betty at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016 at ROCK PRAIRIE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 8605 East County Road A, Janesville. Rev. Jamie Swanson will officiate. Private interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church. The family is being assisted by HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME.
